Course content/one day courses




VHF Radio operators course /exam

A 7 hour course covering VHF radio procedures followed by the exam on the same day. Required reading prior to the course RYA booklets G22 & G26 (available from East Coast Offshore Yachting, cost £10 inc p&p). A VHF radio operators licence is required for people wishing to take their Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster practical exam. A passport size photo will be needed for the issue of your licence.


Diesel engine maintenance

A practical course covering the basic principles of marine diesel engines, servicing, winterisation & rectification of common faults encountered afloat. No previous knowledge is assumed. Course notes are included in the fee. Expect to get dirty on this course & dress accordingly.


First aid

A first aid course specially designed to meet the needs of the person afloat. This course is particularly suitable for sailing instructors who require a 1st aid certificate. No previous knowledge is assumed. A first aid manual is included in the course fee. A current first aid certificate (less than 3 yrs old) is required by people wishing to take a Coastal Skipper or Yachtmaster practical exam.


Sea survival

This course aims to give you a basic knowledge & practical experience of sea survival techniques. The first part of the course is based in the classroom followed by a 2 hour practical session in the swimming pool. No previous knowledge is assumed. Course notes are include in the fee. Attending a sea survival course is a requirement for anyone wishing to get a commercial endorsement on their Yachtmaster Offshore certificate.
