East Coast Offshore Yachting offer a full range of RYA cruising courses from Start Yachting to Yachtmaster Ocean.
The minimum duration of any of the practical courses is 5 days (except Start Yachting). this can be 5 consecutive days or you can spread the course over several weekends.Upon fulfilling the requirements of each of the courses you will be awarded a course completion certificate
If you wish to gain a Day Skipper or Coastal Skipper practical course completion certificate but do not have the required theory knowledge you can gain both by doing a 9 day course aboard our yacht combining both.
Start Yachting.....Experience prior to course - none. A 2 day beginners course. The aim of this course is to give you an introduction to yachting.
Competent Crew.....Experience prior to course - none. The aim of this course is to turn the beginner into a useful crew member. You will learn about safety, seamanship & helmsmanship
Day Skipper.......Experience prior to course - Must be able to complete all the tasks in the competent crew syllabus & have the Day Skipper theory knowledge. See RYA logbook G15 for details. This course is aimed at those with some practical ability who wish to gain experience at skippering a yacht in familiar waters in daylight. The course concentrates on navigation, pilotage, boat handling & seamanship.
Coastal Skipper.......Experience prior to course - Must be able to complete all the tasks in Competent crew & Day Skipper syllabi & have the Coastal Skipper theory knowledge. See RYA logbook G15 for details. For those who have reached the standard of Day Skipper, this is the next step. The aim of the course is to give you the skills required to undertake coastal & offshore passages by day or night. Holders of the Coastal Skipper course completion certificate may wish to take the Yachtmaster coastal exam. See practical exam page for pre-exam requirements
